Private Duty Nursing
Private duty nurses teach parents and caregivers how to care for medically fragile infants and children. It is primarily for patients who need specialized care for extended hours in the home. Our carefully screened pediatric and neonatal nurses have a small caseload which allows them to devote longer hours to each patient, often becoming like a member of the family. If you need these services, check with your private health insurance company. Or call our Intake Department at 203.458.4275 for more information
It starts with setting goals. For private duty nursing to have the greatest impact, we look for a good match between the nurse, child and family members. Together, with your child's physician, an individualized care plan is created with reasonable goals for your child.
Focusing on the whole child. Our nurses become adept at communicating with the child, learning to understand and interpret both verbal and non-verbal cues. Often, private duty nursing is accompanied by pediatric physical, occupational and speech therapy to provide exercise programs. Our nurses communicate with therapists to improve strength, edurance, mobility and developmental skills for your child in a safe and comfortable environment.
Responding to constant needs. We care for infants and children with complex medical needs. As a family member, you are taught how to safely administer medications, tube feedings, etc.
Private Duty Nursing Makes Sense for:
- A child with a chronic or terminal illness
- A child requiring therapy for decreased muscle strength/endurance
